IDES Library MusicIn 1993, the Japanese software house IDES began to release their computer games in CD format, and to some people the music in them seemed... familiar. They might have heard it in everything from a commercial, to a weather forecast or a train compilation video. Why would that be so? The answer, as it turns out, is stock music. Licensed from a music library for a one-time or yearly fee, companies would be given access to countless albums' worth of music, for use as they see fit. This has proven to be a convenient setup for the fast-paced world of commercials, direct-to-video productions, and even the odd video game. The decision to use one seemed unusual, however, for a company that already employed a music production team dedicated to scoring their video games.
